Dental Hygiene and Care 1st February 2017:

This week the Children had a visit from Claire from the HSE in Ennis. Claire spoke to the children about the importance of looking after their teeth and how they can do this i.e. eating healthy and brushing their teeth correctly. Claire gave the children chart to help them remember to brush their teeth and tooth fairy boxes to leave out for the tooth fairy the next time they lose one of their milk teeth.

The children were learning a lot about healthy eating and the importance of a healthy diet for your well being and for looking after your teeth. The children got to take a trip to the dentist where they examined a food table showing the level of sugar found in certain foods. They also got to see and learn about the work of the dentist, the correct way to brush your teeth, the healthy foods and snacks they should be having instead of treats and all about how treat foods can damage your teeth. The children had a  great trip to the dentist.

Boston N.S. has introduced a healthy eating policy with the support of the parents and children. We endeavour to encourage our school community to make healthy choices. We were fortunate to have a chef visit the school for 2 nights and help our parents, children and teachers sample healthy and tasty lunches. The school community tasted healthy treats and were provided with details of how to prepare healthy treats for ‘Treat Fridays’.
